Riffing off past designs has served many brands well over the years, and adidas is using this to its advantage with the upcoming Lightblaze Moc Off White Glow Blue. Expected to launch alongside a Pure Sulfur Pink Bliss iteration, the brand's sportswear team is constantly pushing boundaries. The futuristic aesthetic captures a familiar vibe currently on-trend across multiple brands' collections.
While adidas would like to distance itself and its products from associations with Yeezy and YE (fka Kanye West), the comparison to YZY products is more than merited. The YZY Foam RNNR was revolutionary and introduced a different way footwear could look. The look caught on, and now the similarity between the Foam RNNR and Lightblaze Moc has had social media ablaze with comments.
From an adidas standpoint, it is their design; they own it and paid the mercurial Steven Smith to create the design, which is the end of the discussion. From a consumer POV, they were Yeezys, and Yeezy is not adidas. The Lightblaze Moc aims to set that right by clarifying which pairs are adidas and will be included in future seasonal offerings.
Utilizing the innovative Lightstrike foam technology to craft the entire sneaker, glow blue and orbit grey hues intermittently appear across the off white upper abstractly. This design presents a neutral look that is almost dystopian but heavenly in appearance. The wide ventilation ports around the vamp and midfoot offer maximum breathability while ensuring a fashionable fit.
Branding is minimal, with subtly embossed EQT logos appearing on the lateral midfoot and again on the heel. Several ridges support the structure, carrying Lightstrike branding along the midsole. Underfoot, the Lightstrike comfort elevates the shoe entirely, while intricate patterns ensure plenty of traction and a ready grip.
The adidas Lightblaze Moc Off White Glow Blue is set to release in Spring 2025 via adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men's sizing, retail is to be announced. He will forever profess that Cricket is better than Baseball and that Rugby League is better then Rugby Union. Among his many hot takes, he believes the adidas ZX range is the pinnacle of sneaker design.
