With Jordan Brand's 40th Anniversary in 2025, we’re being inundated with various OG colorways across the extensive Air Jordan lineup. For the Air Jordan 5, which celebrates its 35th birthday this year, Jordan Brand just launched a new “Reimagined” version of the Black Metallic colorway and has even more in store for the silhouette throughout the year, including a return of the Grape rendition in June. The first images of the 2025 retro of another OG Air Jordan 5 have now hit the ‘net — the Fire Red Black Tongue.
Here is some backstory on this version of the AJ 5 for those unaware: the pair was one of the original Air Jordan 5 colorways that hit shelves in 1990. However, its two retros in 2006 and 2013 differed from the original. The font used for the embroidered 23 on the lateral heel changed, and there has not been a version with Nike Air since 1990. However, this new version for 2025 will revert to the original Nike Air logo on the heel.

The font for the red embroidered 23 remains OG, marking the first time since the original release the lettering comes in this style. The 3M tongue is replaced with a black satin material on the top portion, surrounding the red Jumpman logo and contrasting the red hues of the lace lock and sockliner. Across the rest of the upper, we see the usual white leather, transparent plastic netting, and black accents. The red and black AJ 5 midsole finishes the sneaker with a red and icy blue rubber outsole.
The Air Jordan 5 Retro Fire Red Black Tongue will release on September 13, 2025, through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers online and in-store. Available in full-family sizing, the retail price for men’s pairs is $210.
