New Balance has been more in tune with the culture surrounding sneaker collecting and streetwear fashion over the last few years as the Boston-based brand has tapped the likes of Joe Freshgoods, Salehe Bembury, and hired/continues to work with Teddy Santis (founder of Aime Leon Dore) for the brands Made In USA Collection. On top of his stellar work with the seasonal Made In USA line, we can thank Santis for getting Action Bronson his first collab with NB on the newest entry in the 99X series, the New Balance 990v6, which was teased for almost a year before hitting shelves. Now, after the release of the first colorway in March, offiical images of the second colorway, "Lapis Lazuli," have arrived.
Taking on premium materials across its upper, this “Blue” pair strays from the wild contrasting shades of his first 990v6 and instead keeps a strong theme of blue and tan throughout its design. Light blue pigskin suede lands on the overlays while a deep navy blue shade takes over the base layer below. Prominent “N” branding takes on a silver finish on both sides of the midfoot while the laces nearby come in a tan finish and stop below the co-branded Baklava and New Balance tongue tag. More greyish-silver shades similar to that found on the “N” logo appear on the sockliner and collar overlay while the design comes complete by a two-tone vintage cream and blue midsole paired with a gum rubber outsole.
The Action Bronson x New Balance 990v6 Lapis Lazuli will release June 22 through Action Bronson's website while New Balance and select retailers will host a release on June 30. The pair will release in men’s sizing and retail for $220.
