With the year winding down, everyone is finalizing their lists for sneaker of the year. There are plenty of clear-cut frontrunners for this award from across the industry, one of which surprised many — Anthony Edwards’ signature sneaker with adidas, the AE 1. After the initial hype of the mid-cut took over both the basketball and sneaker world, Edwards and co. dropped the AE 1 Low, which has become the go-to choice for releases in the last few months. Following up on an official look at the PE to Retail and Best of Adi 2.0 renditions, a new Metamorphosis colorway has appeared.
The profile's honeycomb-laden generative support wing takes on a chilling arctic night hue in a metallic finish that changes color based on the angle at which you view the sneaker. A similarly shaded toe cap rests below the black Primeblue knit upper, a staple of the AE 1, which wraps around the eyelets and back to the heel. Here, you'll find the faux carbon fiber heel counter that features a Three Stripes logo in scream green.
Another touch of scream green is found along the tongue’s pull tab, featuring Ant’s adidas logo. Compared to the original mid-cut AE 1, the low-top makes a few technical improvements. The construction of the lacing set-up and tongue makes it more forgiving, as the mid-cut has more Primeblue knit along the toe and forefoot. Alongside this, the cushioning within gets changed, swapping the Jet Boost for pucks of Lightboost in the heel and forefoot.
The adidas AE 1 Low Metamorphosis will release on March 15, 2025, through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s and GS sizing, the retail price is $110 and $90, respectively.
