If you can recall, December 2015 was a particularly wild month for the sneaker community. Just as the year was about to come to a close, adidas goes ahead and turns the entire industry on its head with the announcement of the NMD R1. A lifestyle silhouette that was specifically engineered for traveling, hence the name "Nomad," every single sneakerhead wanted a pair in their daily rotation. In fact, some of you were even spending ten times over retail just to add these to your collection. All these years later, while hype surrounding the NMD definitely isn't what it used to be, the German sportswear giant is going full throwback with the adidas NMD R1 OG Pack. And while they look pretty much identical to the two original colorways, there are a few noteworthy differences that you need to know about.
Revealed in the OG "White Tint" and "Core Black" color options, these R1s feature the same sock-like upper, but instead of the classic Primeknit, this pack opts for a breathable mesh instead. Three Stripe branding adorns the lateral and medial side panels, and around the heel, you'll find the iconic pull tab with "The Brand With The 3 Stripes" in multiple languages. Underfoot, the full length Boost midsole makes a comeback complete with the "Glory Red" and "Semi Lucid Blue" EVA plugs, but unlike the 2015 pairs, the usual adidas logo has been replaced with Japanese kanji for that nomadic aesthetic that we all know and love.
Kicking off the new year, the adidas NMD R1 OG Pack is set to release on January 1st, 2023 in men's sizes. Expected to drop at adidas, the CONFIRMED app, and select retailers online and in-store, retail will be $160 each.
