As Star Wars continues to captivate audiences around the globe, adidas is leveraging this enduring popularity by teaming up with Shinji Nanzuka for a footwear collection. This collaboration marries the iconic aesthetics of Star Wars with the contemporary artistry of Shinji Nanzuka, known for his influential art gallery in Tokyo, Japan.
The collection features two models: the Superstar XLG and the NMD_R1, each reimagined through a Star Wars lens. The Superstar XLG showcases a dynamic pop art graphic of C-3PO, revealing the beloved character's intricate internal mechanics. This design is complemented by a cream-colored shell toe, white leather eyestays, and a black leather heel tab, sitting atop a substantial cream rubber midsole. The NMD_R1 opts for a more subdued aesthetic with an all-black color scheme, highlighted by a fiery TPU overlay at the toe that resembles Darth Vader's famous helmet. Finally, the Stan Smith takes on the look of a Stormtrooper, even adding a caricature of the soldier's helmet on the lateral heel.
The Star Wars x Nanzuka x adidas Collection will release on May 4, 2024 (celebrated globally as Star Wars Day), through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. The collaboration also coincides with a special Star Wars exhibition hosted by Shinji Nanzuka’s gallery from April 26 to May 13. The Superstar will retail for $150, while the other two models do not have a confirmed retail price.
