Hopping in a time machine to the mid-2010s, everyone was going crazy for any adidas sneaker with Boost technology - especially if it was an NMD or Ultraboost. A spur of collaborations and inline colorways were instant sellouts though eventually, the hype for the models fell to the wayside. Trying to reinvigorate the NMD lineup, The Three Stripes introduced the world to the NMD_S1, a futuristic and aggressive take on the sock-like slip-on that may not be reaching the same heights its predecessors did, however, it still found a place in the lineup for the German sportswear giant. Already seen in a “Made To Be Remade” iteration, a true “Core Black” colorway has just appeared.
Covered in Primeknit across its upper, the entire sneaker comes in a single shade of Core Black while accenting details on the lace set and heel pop due to white interwoven into the material. Working from the toe back to the midfoot you’ll find a semi-translucent window that slightly gives a view inside the sneaker, so be mindful of your sock choices when rocking these, and comes partially covered by a black TPU Three Stripes logo. More stretchy knit material makes its mark on the ankle and allows easy on-and-off wear while the insole hosts “NMD_S1” branding details in white. Underfoot sits a chunky, aggressively designed Boost-cushioned midsole featuring protruding TPU plugs (mimicking the iconic plugs found on the NMD R1. Below this sits a black rubber outsole laden with Trefoil logos as its traction pattern.
The adidas NMD_S1 Core Black is set to release in 2023 through adidas and select Three Stripes retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $180.
