In the mid-2010s, adidas had lightning in a bottle with their NMD and Ultraboost models. These silhouettes offered casual lifestyle sneakers that contained the ever-comfortable Boost cushioning. However, trends shifted, and the models are no longer looked at with the same glimmer. Trying to spark interest in the NMD line, adidas introduced the futuristic NMD_S1, which has appeared in various inline and collaborative colorways so far. Now, the model has appeared in a neutral “Grey” color scheme.
Constructed out of Primeknit across its upper, the model features a monochromatic grey shade throughout its knit pattern. This same greyscale color palette takes over TPU details, like the toebox’s and mid-foot’s reinforcement, while a transparent window also found on the midfoot takes on a slightly different shade. Tonal laces match the rest of the upper, while a small suede patch (also in grey) appears just above. Underfoot is the most significant change for the NMD as the sole unit receives a chunky construction with angular TPU plugs near the heel and forefoot. Rounding out the design is the grey Trefoil-laden rubber outsole that helps encapsulate a full-length Boost cushioning system.
The adidas NMD_S1 Grey will be released in 2023 through adidas Confirmed and select Three Stripes retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $180.
