adidas Yeezy Foam RNNR history and background.
Ye’s vision for futuristic footwear design is best exemplified through his adidas Yeezy Foam Runner silhouette (dubbed the Foam RNNR in typical YZY fashion). The world was first teased with what many originally called the “Yeezy Croc” when photos emerged of his daughter wearing a prototype pair on a family vacation back in 2019. Fast forward a couple of months and Ye gave sample pairs to models that wore them on the cover of Face Magazine, creating an online buzz that drew many negative opinions once the public realized it was the next Yeezy silhouette.
We wouldn’t have the opportunity to purchase a pair until June 26th, 2020. Ye was taking to Twitter to promote the “West Day Ever,” a slew of announcements that saw the beginning of YZY GAP, a possible redesign of the Yeezy Supply website, and a shock drop of the Yeezy Foam RNNR in the “Ararat” colorway. Selling out in minutes, the aftermarket prices for the silhouette skyrocketed to more than 5x the original retail price of $75, showing us early on that the public truly was ready for this new design language.
Even though the model only takes 25 minutes to produce, the start of regular releases began eight months later when we got the “Sand” and “MXT Moon Grey” colorways. During this in-between period of releases, Ye was spotted almost exclusively in the model and countless samples appeared on the internet. The hype was through the roof and from this release onwards, it was nearly impossible to secure a pair for retail.
If you’ve been eyeing a pair of adidas Yeezy Foam RNNRs for yourself, you’re in luck as the Sole Retriever adidas Yeezy Foam RNNR Buyers Guide should answer all the questions you have about the Yeezy Foam RNNR.
Is it adidas Yeezy Foam Runner or RNNR?
In typical Ye fashion, the croc-like silhouette has an abbreviated spelling and referred to as the adidas Yeezy Foam RNNR. While Foam Runner is not technically incorrect, all adidas and Yeezy branding for the slip-on is RNNR. In fact, the signature brown boxes that all Yeezys come in have "FOAM" printed on the inside of the box's lid and "RNNR" right beneath that.
What are the best adidas Yeezy Foam RNNR colorways?
Earth tones, earth tones, earth tones. No Yeezy sneaker is complete without some variation of tan, brown, or a neutral shade, as is the case with many of the Foam RNNR colorways. Despite so many Yeezy Foam RNNRs being monotone, you do have options. Lucky for you, here are the best adidas Yeezy Foam RNNR colorways ranked.
Some of the most popular colorways happen to be variations of white or black, seen on the “Sand,” “Ararat,” “Onyx,” and “Mineral Blue,” the last two of which feature a very faint MX swirl pattern. What material is the adidas Yeezy Foam RNNR made of?
Many could argue that the Foam RNNR is more comfortable than the Yeezy Slide, though it all will come down to how you like your sneakers to feel. Unlike the aforementioned Slide, the Foam RNNR is constructed out of an EVA and algae foam composite, making the silhouette one of the most uniquely constructed pieces of footwear as well as one of the most comfortable.
There are differences between pairs depending on where it was manufactured. For pairs made in the USA, anecdotal evidence suggests that they feel softer on foot compared to made-in-China pairs, so if you’re looking for maximum comfort, try to stick with USA-produced pairs.
How does the adidas Yeezy Foam RNNR fit?
As a general rule of thumb, the Yeezy Foam Runner will fit somewhat small, so it's best to go up a full size from your standard shoe size considering the model does not come in half sizes like the Yeezy Slide. If you do own any other Yeezy models like the 350, try to stick with that size for your Foam RNNRs, though the best case scenario would be to try a pair on in person before making a purchase to ensure you’re getting the correct size for your feet.
As mentioned when discussing materials, USA pairs run a tad bit looser when compared to pairs produced in China, though it's mostly a negligible difference so it shouldn’t be a worry. There is one colorway that does fit radically different when compared to others, and that is the original “Ararat.” The mold and materials used differ from all other releases, and as such, fit bigger than any other release, so keep that in mind if you’ve been looking to scoop up a pair on the aftermarket.
How much do Yeezy Foam RNNRs cost?
While the current retail price for adult pairs is $90, the adidas Yeezy Foam RNNR has seen two price increases since the first drop. Originally selling for $75 in June of 2020, all releases in 2021 went up to $80 and eventually hit the current mark. Still, the sneaker is the second most affordable piece of footwear from Yeezy, though Ye has stated in the past that he wants to make the model cost $20 at some point in the future.
