2025 will mark the 40th Anniversary of the Air Jordan 1, the sneaker that started the multi-billion dollar Jordan Brand empire. Plenty of pairs on the release calendar are coming out to celebrate not only the Jordan 1 but also the 40 years of Air Jordan sneakers as a whole. However, we’re still learning of Jordan Brand’s plans for next year, potentially including the Air Jordan 1 High 85 Royal.
While we knew there were plans to release the Royal colorway, one of the original AJ1 releases from 1985, in the low-top '85 variant, Jordan Brand canceled the release alongside various other pairs. The images here come from Chase B, Travis Scott’s close friend and DJ, who has been by his side for years and has offered first looks at a handful of Travis Scott x Jordan releases. On top of getting Travis Scott releases, Chase B’s close relationship with Scott allows him access to many Nike and Jordan products, including this Jordan 1 High.
First introduced in 2020, the '85 version of the Air Jordan 1 High recreates the original version released nearly 40 years ago, down to the leather's thickness, the upper's shape, and the sneaker's construction. So far, there have been seven different releases on the model, with the eighth planned for February 2025, the Air Jordan 1 High 85 Bred.
Currently, Sole Retriever cannot confirm that the Air Jordan 1 High 85 Royal pictured here will be released to the public in 2025. It’s only been two years since the colorway returned, albeit in a Reimagined form with suede paneling instead of leather. Considering the low-top was canceled, this sample of the 85 High may replace it in the calendar for next year.
If this pair does release, this would mark the third OG colorway of the AJ1 coming back next year, the other two being the aforementioned Bred 85 and the UNC Reimagined.
