Jordan Brand is once again pushing the boundaries of storytelling through sneakers. As Spring 2024 approaches, the Air Jordan 1 Mid SE is set to pay homage to a pivotal piece of basketball history - the oldest basketball court in the world, nestled in the basement of a YMCA in Paris, France. This release follows the trend of infusing meaningful narratives into the Jordan 1 Mid, as seen in the recent kids' exclusive version inspired by Michael Jordan's six championships.
The Air Jordan 1 Mid SE Paris YMCA is a tribute to the rich legacy of basketball, mirroring the aesthetics of the historic Parisian court. The sneaker features a harmonious blend of earthy browns, creams, and reddish-browns, reminiscent of the dark wooden construction of the original court. The design intricately weaves the past with the present, as seen in the heel and tongue tag, adorned with a woven pattern that echoes the herringbone wooden layout of the court's floor.
In a nod to the court's significance, a special hangtag accompanies the sneaker, bearing the inscription "Tribute to the oldest basketball court in Europe, Paris 1893." This acknowledgment commemorates the court's status as the oldest standing basketball court and its historical importance as the first basketball court established outside the United States.
Underneath, the sneaker is grounded by a classic white Air Jordan 1 midsole, providing a clean contrast to the upper's rich tones. Coupled with a durable brown rubber outsole, it ensures both style and functionality.
The Air Jordan 1 Mid SE Paris YMCA will be released on January 29, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, this sneaker will retail for $150.
