Even though the Air Jordan 1 is almost four decades old, it's still regarded as one of the most iconic sneakers ever made. When Nike publicly announced that they were signing Michael Jordan back in 1985, they did so with a plethora of promotional images, some of which showcased His Airness himself dunking in front of the Chicago skyline. Fading from a dusky orange to a deep purple, the shot has since been ingrained in the memories of both old school and new school Jumpman fans, and to pay tribute to it, the American sportswear giant has taken the wraps off the Air Jordan 1 Mid SS "Skyline." Made for the next generation of basketball players, here's what we know so far.
Taking elements from the legendary "Chicago" colorway, the "Skyline" switches out the white hues in favor of a gradient effect that nods to the original campaign. Changing from total orange to psychic purple, it's overlaid with stark black suede panels that wrap around the lacing system and toebox. Elsewhere, a Nike Swoosh shoots through the lateral and medial sidewalls, while the signature winged basketball insignia is finely debossed across the fiery red collar flaps. On top of all of this, the rubber outsole has also been decked out in the skyline-esque aesthetic, finalising the unique Air Jordan 1 Mid design.
As well as the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Craft "Skyline" and the Air Jordan 2 Retro Low "Look Up In The Air," the Air Jordan 1 Mid SS Skyline GS is the third Jordan that we've seen this year that's inspired by Chicago's iconic skyline. Releasing sometime in June 2023, it will be available exclusively in kids sizes at Nike, the SNKRS app, and select Jordan retailers for $120, $85, and $65 for the gradeschool, pre-school, and toddler pairs, respectively.
