While the Chicago Bulls and North Carolina Tar Heels are mainstay inspirations in the Air Jordan catalog, we can’t forget about the Laney High Buccaneers! The team that Michael Jordan was infamously cut from during his sophomore year (according to legend). One of the first sneakers to pay tribute to MJ’s high school was the original Air Jordan 14 Low in 1998, followed by an Air Jordan 5 Retro+ in 2000.
The “Laney” theme continues on various silhouettes, most notably the AJ 5. In 2013 during the initial debut of the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG, the blue and yellow colors of the Laney Bucs dressed the Peter Moore designed silhouette. Fresh for Spring 2023, the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG “Laney” is back, with a twist. Featuring a “reversed” look, this pair sports game royal overlays with varsity maize underlays. Coming in all-leather, this pair also features an aged midsole. A women’s exclusive, don’t fret, they will come in extended sizing!
The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Laney W is set to release in Spring 2023. It will drop at Nike as well as select Jordan Brand retailers worldwide, in-store and online. Coming in women’s and kids sizing, retail is set at $180 for extended women’s sizes (up to a 13W/11.5W).
