For Rui Hachimura, his Japanese heritage plays a huge role in his life and career in the NBA. On his journey to the pinnacle of professional basketball, Hachimura would break barriers as the 1st Japanese-born player to play in the NCAA Divison I men’s tournament and eventually get signed to Jordan Brand in 2019 prior to his NBA debut with the Washington Wizards. Since then, we’ve seen numerous PEs and special colorways of Jordan sneakers that take their inspiration from his Japanese heritage, like the AJ 36 “Black Samurai” or AJ 8 SE that donned his namesake. Now the latter of the two silhouettes is getting revisited with the Air Jordan 36 Rui Hachimura “Crane.”
Black textile covers the base of the performance basketball-ready silhouette with ornate graphics of cranes and Japanese vegetation in red, green, and white shades featured all throughout. Keeping these colors strong throughout, the tongue and collar continue the black theme while the laces partake in a two-tone red and black hue. Aside from the top eyestays, other golden hits come courtesy of stitching details and branding via the Jumpman, Nike Air, and Japanese characters that are featured on the tongue and heel. Rounding out the design is the red and black AJ 36 midsole with a full-length Zoom Air unit paired with a semi-translucent rubber outsole.
The Air Jordan 36 Rui Hachimura Crane will release on September 30th, 2022 through Nike and select Jordan Brand retailers online and in-store in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, and Singapore. A stateside release has not been confirmed at this time. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $200.
