Dating back to the early '00s, two sample pairs of Air Jordan 9 Retros were made. One pair came in a Los Angeles Lakers white, purple and gold, while the other came in a SVSM white, green, and gold. These sample pairs were made to represent Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, respectively. Both pairs were never released, until Jordan Brand dropped the Lakers-themed pair in 2016, with slight differences. It also turns out that both pairs were re-designed and gifted to LeBron James when he signed with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2018.
The LeBron James Air Jordan 9 Retro PE Pack represents the past and present for King James. The SVSM pair highlights his high school career, while the Lakers pair ties into his NBA career today. The Air Jordan 9 Retro SVSM PE comes in a Fighting Irish-inspired white, green, and gold. Featuring a white-based leather upper with green accents and gold detailing. The Air Jordan 9 Retro Lakers PE is done up in white, purple, and yellow. This pair also sports a white-based upper, but with purple accents and yellow detailing. Both pairs feature LeBron's former jersey number "23" (an ode to MJ) embroidered on the back heel in white, with a white solid rubber outsole finishing things off.
The LeBron James Air Jordan 9 Retro PE Pack was made for King James and is not scheduled to release, however, we can expect to see more AJ 9s in the near future.
