Kyrie Irving’s lineup of sneakers with ANTA has expanded with the introduction of the ANTA Kai 1 Speed, a new variant of his first performance basketball model with the Chinese sportswear brand. After debuting the sneaker in the Twin Flame colorway, inspired by the connection between his father, Dred, and mother, Elizabeth, Kyrie, and ANTA are looking to those who inspired Irving with the Tribe colorway.
Speaking on the new colorway, Kyrie stated, “The KAI 1 Speed Tribe represents the journey I’ve been on, not just as a player, but as a person who is constantly learning from the people around me—my family, my friends, and my fans. This colorway is a tribute to the unity, love, and strength I’ve gained from my tribe, both on and off the court. We are more powerful united, and I believe it’s essential to learn from those who paved the way and sacrificed for us to be here today.”
As for the sneaker itself, we see a mesh base reinforced with fused TPU overlays and leather across the design, utilizing a dark color palette compared to most of Kyrie’s offerings. These dark hues are present on the black details around the mudguard, vamp, eyestays, collar, and tongue, while the base features a multi-color tribal pattern that is meant to represent those from all walks of life, something his father Dred taught him at a young age. Kyrie’s logo is placed in yellow atop the tongue, matching the shade of the TPU inserts that host ANTA and Kyrie branding back on the heel. Pops of red take over the sockliner and vamp, while the look is complete with a gradient midsole featuring red to black shades paired with a gum rubber outsole.
The ANTA Kai 1 Speed Tribe will release on October 26, 2024, through ANTA, DSG, and Foot Locker online and in-store. Available in men’s and GS sizing, the retail price is set at $125 for men and $100 for GS.
