Footwear brands across the globe have had major success in bringing back models from the dead, and no one is doing this better than New Balance. Countless designs have been revived, including the once-Japanese-exclusive New Balance 580, which is currently in the spotlight thanks to a mita sneakers collaboration combining two OG colorways. Another Japanese retailer is working on the 580 silhouette, atmos Tokyo, following up on the Wood Escape rendition with an earthy color scheme dubbed Land(E)scape.
Seemingly inverting the color palette of mita sneakers' OG Combo rendition of the 580, atmos Toyko's take on the model sees tan hues grace the leather panels along the mudguard, midfoot, and heel, with the mudguard getting an added NB logo embossed into the design. Faux ostrich leather in a deep brown shade is placed on the toebox and collar, contrasted by neutral grey and black hues surrounding each panel. These black shades appear on the underlay around the vamp and the N logo, while grey is present on the piping of the N logo, the TPU panel near the collar, and the leather heel tab. A green leather tongue allows the cream laces and black tongue tag to shine through. Inside, the sneaker comes with a tan insole that features text detailing the history of the 580. The cream, white, and black foam midsole finishes the design with a grey ROLLBAR placed near the heel for support and a black rubber outsole.
Limited to just 580 pairs worldwide, the atmos Tokyo x New Balance 580 Land(E)scape will release exclusively via atmos Tokyo on November 23, 2024, with a raffle open from November 15th to the 22nd. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is set at 24,200 yen (approx $160 USD).
