atmos Tokyo continues its hot streak of high-profile collaborations, most recently working with Asics on the Gel-Kayano 14, GT-2160, and Gel-NYC. Now, the renowned Japanese retailer is set to launch another exciting project, this time with New Balance, reimagining the once-Japan-exclusive New Balance 580. The collaboration, dubbed Wood Escape, draws inspiration from nature and the serene experience of escaping the urban hustle to enjoy the tranquility of mountainous terrains and forests.
The atmos Tokyo x New Balance 580 Wood Escape features a mesh base with suede and nubuck panels. The color palette is inspired by the natural elements found in forests and mountains. Light brown suede panels on the mudguard, midfoot, and heel evoke the earthy tones of the wilderness. A grey hue takes over the middle of the sneaker, providing a balanced contrast, while green accents pop on the N logo, the 580 tongue tag, and the heel tab, adding a fresh touch reminiscent of lush greenery.
Additional outdoor-inspired features include a hairy suede brown tongue and a hiking boot-inspired lace set, enhancing the rugged aesthetic of the sneaker. Reflective 3M details on the green panels add a modern touch, ensuring visibility during outdoor adventures. Underfoot, a black midsole with a grey Rollbar near the heel provides stability and support, paired with a gum rubber outsole that offers excellent traction on various surfaces.
The atmos Tokyo x New Balance 580 Wood Escape will release on June 29, 2024, through atmos Tokyo online. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at ¥19,800 (approximately $125).
