Despite not holding the same weight it did in the past two decades, BAPE remains a legendary streetwear label. Known for its bold designs and streetwear staples, the Japanese brand has continued to collaborate with various high-profile brands. One significant partnership that began in 2021 was with Vans, marking the first BAPE x Vans capsule. Building on the success of their initial collaboration and the subsequent 2022 release featuring the Sk8-Hi 38 DX and Old Skool 36 DX, BAPE and Vans are back with a new collection. This time, the duo brings fresh takes on the Vans Sk8-Mid and Old Skool.
The Vans Old Skool in this collection features a striking design with black canvas on the toe and eyestays, complemented by white embroidered A BATHING APE text on the toe. The lace set and jazz stripe on the midfoot also come in white, creating a clean contrast against the vibrant camo patterns. The left side of each sneaker showcases BAPE's classic ABC camo, while the right side introduces a different color ABC camo pattern along with a BAPE star logo—blue hues on the left shoe and pink on the right. Custom insoles and midsoles complete the look.
The Vans Sk8-Mid maintains the bold design elements in the Old Skool but opts for a more consistent upper without the mismatched look. The classic green and brown ABC camo adorns the midfoot and collar, with the right side featuring the BAPE star logo. A white midsole with A BATHING APE branding on the sidewall finishes the design, offering a fresh yet familiar aesthetic for fans of both brands.
The BAPE x Vans Collection is set to release on July 26, 2024, through BAPE and Vans online and select retailers. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $140 for the Sk8-Mid and $135 for the Old Skool.
