Concepts Teases Two Hybrid Nike Air Max Sneakers Inspired by Outer Space
PublishedBoston-based retailer and lifestyle brand Concepts has slowed down on its Nike collaborations as of late. 2022 was the last time the long-time partners worked on a collaborative product, with that year featuring three different Air Max 1 releases and the highly-coveted Nike SB Dunk Low Orange Lobster. Now, after the recent New Balance 740 project taken on by Concepts, the brand’s creative director, Deon Point, has teased us with a new Air Max project.
In the teaser gif, we see two different colorways of a hybrid Air Max sneaker, one featuring an orange glow-in-the-dark outsole and Air unit and the other swapping the orange for a traditional green glow-in-the-dark finish. Both pairs are greyed out and come coated in a galactic star print enhanced with a shooting star-inspired mini Swoosh that begins near the lateral toe and extends across almost the entire upper. The upper features the same paneling as the legendary Air Max 1, the sneaker that kicked off the Air Max family back in 1987, and comes with what seems to be a color-changing Swoosh on the midfoot.
While the upper is familiar to all sneakerheads, the tooling setup is taken from a different, more obscure Air Max sneaker. The large milk jug-inspired Air 270-degree bubble and sculpted foam midsole are directly borrowed from the Air Max 93, which also lent its tooling setup to other sneakers like the Air Max 94 and Air Max Burst.
This new Concepts x Nike Air Max 1/93 (which could have an entirely different name) has no confirmed release information. The pair could be an old sample shared by Deon, something he has done in the past on his Instagram, or it could be a teaser for a drop coming later in 2025.
