It’s official: the 2024-2025 NBA season is underway. Although six teams have yet to play, the first two nights of basketball have not only produced highlights from plays but also footwear debuts and choices from across the league. Devin Booker started the season strong, rocking his signature sneaker with Nike, the Book 1, in a new PE rendition themed after the University of Southern California.
The workwear-inspired twill construction of the Book 1 remains untouched in this homage to USC, with the upper featuring the material on the midfoot panel. Like his pre-season Michigan State PE, nubuck details grace the paneling along the toe, mudguard, vamp, eyestays, collar, and heel overlay. Pops of USC’s gold are found via the mini Swoosh on the vamp, the collegiate-inspired Book text along the tongue tag, the large Swoosh on the midfoot, and the USC logo stamped on the lateral heel. Back on the heel sits the book spine-inspired pull tab, which features Chapter One text on the heel and 96 on the back of the leather tab. Finishing the design is the white rubber midsole paired with a gold and red rubber outsole.
This new Nike Book 1 USC PE will likely remain exclusive to Booker and the USC basketball team. However, there are plenty of Book 1s to look forward to in the future, including the Forrest Gump and Sunset renditions.
