The use of collaborators for adidas has not been as successful as they had hoped. Losing Beyonce and splitting ties with Ye, The Three Stripes still has partners like Disney to team up with while we await the full reveal of Jerry Lorenzo’s Fear Of God Athletics sub-label. Taking yet another iconic Disney character and bringing them to life via footwear, adidas brings Pinocchio to the Stan Smith.
Like previous Disney x adidas Stan Smith releases, the pair maintains its iconic construction with an all-leather build applied to the upper, while infusing details with nods to the character. For this “Pinocchio” colorway, we see a creamy hue take over most of the upper, with red landing on the mesh sockliner. Along the lateral midfoot, the Three Stripes pattern is present through stitching details that resemble the strings used to operate a marionette puppet. Moving to the tongue tag, we see Stan Smith’s portrait remain on the right sneaker, while the left pair showcases a drawing of Pinocchio. Hidden behind these tongue tags are colorful illustrations depicting Pinocchio and Jiminy Cricket. Back on the heel, the phrase “It's Not Easy Being Green” gets split between the two Trefoil-laden heel tabs, denoting the pair’s eco-friendly construction. Rounding out the look is the creamy adidas-branded midsole paired with a matching rubber outsole. The pair will also come packaged in a special co-branded Disney and adidas cardboard box and include a second set of red laces.
The Disney x adidas Stan Smith Pinocchio will be released in 2023 through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $100.
