Trends amongst sneakerheads have shifted from retro basketball styles being all the rage to more utilitarian, comfort-based sneakers becoming the go-to for many. Within this niche are those who appreciate gorpcore, more outdoor-focused technical styles like the offerings from brands like Merrell. As more sneakerheads check out the brand, they’ve collaborated globally, recently with Japanese label FreshService.
Taking on a clean white body for most of the silhouette, FreshService’s signature neon yellow color accents on the lace holder and portions of the tongue and heel. A ripstop Gore-Tex forms the base layer, coming in a tonal white hue, while more white lands on the leather panels around the mudguard, eyestays, and midfoot. Pops of black make their home on the heel and along the tongue, while the co-branded insole also takes on a black shade. More branding details are found on the lateral midfoot, with Merrell written across the wavy leather panel. Underfoot sits a white midsole paired with a black Vibram rubber outsole.
The FreshService x Merrell Moab Speed 2 GTX will release on September 21, 2024, through FreshService’s website and select retailers in Japan. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price comes out to approximately $185.
