Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season has officially wrapped up. Across the league, we saw plenty of high-heat sneakers hit the gridiron, from Xavier Worthy scoring two touchdowns in the Air Jordan 1 Low Chicago cleat to Jalen Hurts taking the field in a Brazil-themed AJ3 PE. However, Monday Night Football with the 49ers and Jets saw San Fran’s star tight end George Kittle, a renowned sneakerhead, lace up a custom Union LA-inspired Air Jordan 1 High cleat by The Shoe Surgeon.
The custom cleat has the same colorblocking and material makeup as the Union LA x Air Jordan 1 High Black Toe, which mashes up the Black Toe AJ1 with the Neutral Grey AJ1 High. Black hues hit the mudguard, eyestays, and Swoosh, while an aged yellow effect is applied to the edge of the black panels across the upper. Split laces go between black and cream hues as you work towards the top, resting on the aged yellow tongue and the custom Shoe Surgeon logo patch. More branding for The Shoe Surgeon is found on the added yellow tag along the collar overlay, which plays on the UN/LA logo on the Union Jordan 1. The aged midsole and a red cleated outsole are rounding out the design.
Kittle’s custom Union LA-inspired Jordan 1 High cleats will remain exclusive to the star tight end, and in his first game wearing the pair, he had a solid performance with four receptions for 40 yards. We’ll keep our eye on Kittle throughout the season, as his love for sneakers likely means he will take the field in more high-heat custom kicks.
