Revealed during Milan Fashion Week at the end of February, the Gucci x adidas Collection showcases the direction the streetwear, sportswear, and high fashion industries have been heading. The three categories have intermingled for years, going back to Dapper Dan’s bespoke spin-offs in the 80s, bootleg Louis Vuttion Air Forces in the early 90s, and now in the past few years officially working on projects between storied luxury designer brands and household names likes adidas and Nike. Encapsulated in the Gucci x adidas Collection are archival Three Stripes designs mixed through the House Of Gucci lens, ranging between adidas Gazelle sneakers and fully co-branded jumpsuits.
Presented to us by Alessandro Michele, the lookbook features photos inspired by archival catalogs with full head-to-toe looks of Gucci x adidas apparel. Jumpsuits utilizing the famous green and red Gucci alongside vintage adidas logos that pair well with the adidas-laden monogram duffle. Sporty looks combining both brands take a high fashion spin through the different cuts, such as the blue cropped jacket and slim fit jogging pants. More tame looks include the cotton jersey t-shirt with inverted and standard Trefoil logos alongside Gucci branding, as well as sweatshirts and v-necks featuring large Gucci x adidas branding. Accessories range from classic double G monogram bags with large co-branding to simple colored socks.
As for the sneakers featured in the lookbook, multiple colorways of the adidas Gazelle get the Gucci treatment through subtle branding takeovers seen on the heel and insole. Platform takes on the Gazelle and Adilette Slides are also present, coming with a multi-colored stacked sole. For more formal occasions, Gucci loafers, slippers, and dress shoes get an adidas makeover courtesy of the Three Stripe and Trefoil branding.
The select pieces from the Gucci x adidas collection released on June 7th, 2022 through adidas Confirmed and Gucci online and in-store with select styles dropping throughout the last few months. Now, 7 new Gucci x adidas Gazelle colorways are expected to release on July 28th. Pricing is in the range of typical Gucci prices with shoes retailing between $850 to $1,290.
