2025’s MLB Opening Day was one to remember as the start of baseball season presented multiple sneaker moments. Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers took to the plate rocking a cleat version of the Nigel Sylvester x Air Jordan 4 Brick by Brick. Shohei Ohtani was, of course, rocking his own New Balance sneakers, and for first pitch ceremonies, there was an equally impressive display. In Chicago, the White Sox tasked Derrick Rose with kicking off the season, and he did so in his very own pair of the adidas Fear of God Athletics Basketball II.
Jerry Lorenzo, the man behind Fear of God, teased us in December 2024 with early images of the pair D-Rose wore on the field. At the time, they were samples, and whether or not they would be released to the public was unknown. Thankfully for fans of Rose, they’ll be pleased to hear that the pair will be getting a retail release later in 2025. Lorenzo himself clarified on Sole Retirever's Instagram that the pair is a D-Rose iteration before adidas officially confirmed a release for the model.
The sneaker retains its performance-oriented design features, such as a breathable mesh base and reinforced suede paneling. However, the sample differs from the version that Rose took the mound in as not only is this the lower cut version of the Basketball II, but the built-in ankle brace on the left pair, which was easily identifiable as it contrasted the dark upper with its red finish, is removed. Red contrast is added through the rope laces, while Derrick Rose’s adidas signature logo is placed on the heel tab.
The Derrick Rose x adidas Fear of God Athletics Basketball II Low will release in December 2025 through Fear of God, adidas, and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price has not been confirmed at this time, though expect it to hover around the $180 to $200 mark as that is typically the standard price for FOG Athletics adidas sneakers.
