The collaborative journey between iconic sneaker brands and fashion labels often brings historic models back into the limelight, and this November, Korean streetwear powerhouse Kasina is rekindling the flame of a classic— the Converse Weapon. The model, a celebrated basketball shoe from the 80s, has been revived in OG fashion this year with fragment design and Undefeated reimagining the design months back. Now, Kasina is set to put its stamp on the sneaker, adding to the Converse archives with a nod to its heritage.
Kasina's interpretation of the Converse Weapon is nothing short of remarkable. The shoe features a luxurious creamy leather upper that serves as a canvas for the contrasting Converse star-chevron logo, presented in green on the lateral and blue on the medial side, creating a subtle asymmetrical aesthetic. Navy detailing graces the collar and sockliner, while Kasina's touches are meticulously integrated into the design. The brand’s founding year, 1997, is emblazoned on the medial Y-strap, accompanied by hand-drawn lines that evoke a personal, DIY feel.
The other side of the shoe showcases "Kasina" in a hand-drawn style, while the heel features a sketch inspired by Kasina's shop architecture. The brand's name is rendered in traditional Hangul script on the side, showcasing a proud display of Korean heritage. The design is rounded off with a matching creamy midsole and a durable rubber outsole, staying true to the sneaker's roots while pushing the envelope in collaborative footwear design.
The Kasina x Converse Weapon will release November 16, 2023, through Kasina, Converse, Nike SNKRS, and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $140.
