For 40 years now, He-Man and the Masters Of The Universe franchise have held a special place in the heart of millions of 80s babies and is soon to be tapping into the current generation with a feature film set to release in 2024. Leading up to this, it seems MOTU is entering the hype space as a collaboration with the late-Virgil Abloh just released and the franchise is coming to life on a pack of Puma RS-X colorways.
Three of the franchise’s most iconic characters, He-Man, Skeletor, and Battle Cat each get their colorway and come in a color palette reminiscent of the characters themselves as well as nods to their catchphrases. For Skeletor, shades of purple take over the patent and tumbled leather overlays, dash-embroidered Puma formstrip, and along the mesh underlay while one of his favorite phrases, “MYAAHAHAHA!” is spelled out along the heel. A graphic depicting Skeletor appears on the Puma-branded tongue tag and follows suit with the surrounding shades. Lime green from his helmet appears on the lace set, tongue, eyestays, and heel while the entire design is rounded out by a speckled white and grey foam midsole featuring TPU plugs in grey.
The star of the series, He-Man, gets his kicks covered mainly in red and orange across a similarly constructed RS-X, however, the tongue gets covered in shaggy fur. Beneath these overlays sits a white mesh upper while the collar gets a burnt orange finish. Direct nods to the hero can be found atop the tongue with his portrait visible as well as through the “I HAVE THE POWER” text debossed atop the lateral heel overlay. Rounding out the design is the white foam midsole and rubber outsole with TPU plugs in red and orange accenting this colorless finish.
Straying from the same design details found on the other two pairs, Battle Cat’s colorway comes in an almost-all over green hue and features a mixture of ripstop nylon and suede. Various orange-shaded graphics depicting what looks like tiger stripes appear along the toe, heel, and on a TPU plug atop the midsole, while the eyestays, tongue, and collar get a burgundy red finish. Rounding everything out is the white foam midsole paired with a yellow rubber outsole.
The MOTU x Puma RS-X Pack is set to release on December 8th, 2022 through Puma and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
