The Monster Hunter franchise is going all out to commemorate its 20th birthday. What began as an action RPG in 2004 has become a multimedia franchise that spans movies, shows, books, and sneakers. Linking with German sportswear brand Puma, Monster Hunter is brought to life via the Suede and Palermo Moda.
Starting with the Puma Suede, we see a black suede finish applied to the toe, midfoot, heel, and tongue, with the Formstrip on the midfoot providing an overt nod to the franchise. A graphic pattern is applied to the logo, featuring multiple monsters and creatures from the Monster Hunter universe. Along the tongue sits a blacked-out portrait of Rathalos, a species of wyvern in the Monster Hunter franchise that is often considered the icon of the series, surrounded by gold hues. More gold is located on the Puma logo on the heel and insole, which features Puma and Monster Hunter logos. Rounding out the look is the white rubber midsole and outsole.
On the Palermo Moda, the Airou of the series is brought to life. These loveable cat-like creatures often assist players during gameplay and are spotted in their villages across the series. Their fury is represented by suede panels on the mudguard, eyestays, and heel but by the faux fur details on the base. Creamy tans and earthy brown hues evoke the colors of the creatures, while golden accents pop along the Palermo branding and the Puma/Monster Hunter logos on the tongue tag and insole. Down below, the model is finished with a tan midsole and outsole.
The Monster Hunter x Puma Collection releases on September 27, 2024, via Puma Japan and select retailers in Japan. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price of the Puma Suede is set at ¥16,500 (approx $115), while the Palermo Moda is priced at ¥14,300 (approx $100).
