Characters from beloved childhood cartoons and movies have been brought to life countless times in the footwear industry from bootleg Jordans in the 2000s featuring SpongeBob (which just had a collaborative Puma collection) to adidas’ Disney partnership. This childhood nostalgia will forever be a fuel for designs and adidas is continuing to tap into this by now teaming up with Finnish comic series Moomin on the classic Stan Smith.
Coming to us with an upper that features atleast 50% recycled materials, the hippo-like characters of Moomin inspire the colorway and get featured on the model throughout. Canvas construction is utilized in a creamy white shade with brown accents spotted on branding details and stitching placed on the heel tab. Tonal laces work up the tongue which instead of Stan Smith himself gets Moomintroll’s portrait outlined on the tag. Snorkmaiden, another one of the series characters, is seen tending a garden on the heel tab. These hits of Moomin characters are the only direct nods to the comic with the “Stan Smith” and Three Stripes branding in brown alongside a cork sole unit adding charm and finishing the design.
The Moomin x adidas Stan Smith is set to release in 2023 through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is currently TBA.
