New Balance has long been revered for its dedication to craftsmanship and quality, particularly its Made in USA line. One of the standout models in this collection is the New Balance 997, originally designed by legendary sneaker designer Steven Smith and first released in 1991. While it enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in the late 2010s (the first retro release took place in 2014), the 997 primarily disappeared during the pandemic, with New Balance focusing on other versions like the 997H, 997S, and 997R. However, the brand recently reignited excitement with the Teddy Santis-led Paris Exclusive colorway, signaling a full-scale comeback of the classic 997 silhouette. Now, New Balance is set to release the iconic Grey colorway, a timeless look that epitomizes the brand's aesthetic.
The New Balance 997 Made in USA Grey features a construction of premium suede, leather, and mesh, adhering to the brand's high-quality standards. The upper showcases New Balance's signature grey color palette, with suede covering the mudguard, midfoot, and heel overlay. Pebbled leather accents on the vamp, collar, and tongue provide a subtle textural contrast, while the iconic N logo on the midfoot is outlined in grey and white suede.
The sockliner, crafted from white leather, complements the grey hues, adding a clean touch to the overall design. Additional white elements include the lace set and the New Balance Made in USA branding on the tongue. The sneaker is completed with a dual-tone grey and white 997 midsole, offering superior cushioning and support, paired with a durable black and grey rubber outsole.
The New Balance 997 Made in USA Grey will release in 2024 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price has yet to be confirmed, though the last releases in 2019 were priced at $210, so expect it to hover around $220 now.
