Kawhi Leonard's bold move from Jordan Brand to New Balance significantly shifted the basketball footwear landscape. This decision, surprising many in the sports world, brought New Balance into the NBA spotlight. Since then, New Balance has expanded its basketball star roster and has actively developed performance-focused silhouettes. The brand is set to introduce the New Balance Kawhi 4 in 2024, the latest addition to Kawhi's signature line. This release follows the Kawhi 3, which set the stage for its successor despite facing quality control issues and limited colorway options.
The New Balance Kawhi 4 brings a fresh perspective to Leonard's line, featuring a sleek low-top design. The sneaker is constructed with an engineered mesh upper, providing breathability and comfort, and is reinforced with TPU overlays that display a dynamic wavy pattern across the midfoot. New Balance's iconic branding is strategically placed on the top-most eyestay, while Kawhi's logo adorns the tongue.
Further branding elements for the Fun Guy are found on the heel with Kawhi's name spelled out. The vamp is adorned with the Roman numeral IV, symbolizing this model as the fourth in Leonard's signature series. The design is underpinned by a robust rubber midsole paired with a durable rubber outsole.
The revealed colorways include a classic combination of white, black, and red, known as the Transcend the Game edition, alongside a strikingly vibrant pink Transcend Reality variant. Inspiration for the Transcend the Game pair comes from Kawhi's game and how he would dominate in any era. The Transcend Reality pair is inspired by old-school gamer graphics that mimic his playing style.
The New Balance Kawhi 4 will release in 2024 with both the Transcend the Game and Transcend Reality pairs dropping on April 25. They will be available through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $160.
