In Nike’s latest concept, the Nike logo is reimagined to be a shield, a common design for tuition-based preparatory schools that often symbolizes tradition and longevity. Nike Running has proven its longevity and importance in the running shoe category and the retro Nike Air Max is a core staple in the long-standing tradition of innovative technology. Dark green and navy in combination with grey, white, and black, breathes life into the prep school concept, an ode to common uniform colors that a school-goer would wear at many private schools.
Dark grey leather caps the toe, as the layered strips inspired by the striations of muscle fibers feature a mix of materials as well: dark grey leather, blueish-grey ripstop, light grey suede, and white tumbled leather. The green and grey striped lace tabs rise out from underneath the blueish-grey mesh overlay, with a single yellow tab at the very bottom of the lacing system. The white mesh and textile tongue feature a large orange and yellow checkered shield with “Nike” and Swoosh branding stitched into the middle of it, the hallmark of the prep school theme. Reflective grey is used for the laceloops on the tongue as well as the spine of the heel, as the sneaker sits on top of a white Air Max 95 midsole and black and yellow outsole.
