Safari print was inspired by ostrich leather on high-end luxury couches and introduced during a time where running sneakers were not usually seen outside of athletics. The faux animal print material found on the Nike Air Safari is what sparked the prints nickname and we’ve seen the print on many different shoes since its debut in 1987.
This women’s pair of Nike Air Max 95s lateral side features gradient shades of grey safari print, while the medial side sports various shades of purple suede. There’s no shortage of premium suedes here, with the upper constructed of safari print debossed into black, grey, and tan suede on the lateral side, and a coarse suede going from viotech purple to an almost pink-purple suede on the medial side. Tan mesh overlays the usual nylon lace loops as white rope laces make their way up the black mesh tongue. Colored Air Max columns peak through the tan midsole, sitting on a dark grey rubber outsole.
