Nike has continued to draw inspiration from soccer (or football for those outside the US). Earlier this year, The Swoosh dropped a sneaker that would surely be a hit in the EU. It combined old-school soccer cleats, specifically the Nike Tiempo, with the Sean McDowell-designed Air Max Plus to create the Air Max Plus Tiempo, dropping the model in a Wolf Grey and Black White colorway in July. Now, a Phantom Metallic Gold version has appeared.
The Air Max Plus’ usual mesh and TPU upper is replaced with a primarily leather construction, adding the palm tree-inspired overlays through tonal stitching details. Most of this design takes on the titular phantom hue, contrasted by the metallic gold hits on the leather Swoosh on the midfoot and the Swoosh debossed onto the long folded leather tongue. Beneath the folded portion of the tongue sits a tonal lace set alongside the standard Air Max Plus tongue branding window.
Other branding details include the insole’s golden Nike Air logo and the classic Tuned Air logo on the heel tab. Below, the sneaker features a tonal phantom foam midsole with Tuned Air units in the forefoot and heel that come coated in metallic gold. Finishing the design is the gold and phantom rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Max Plus Tiempo Phantom Metallic Gold will release on December 2, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $195.
