First introduced in 1995, the Nike Air Rift was inspired by Kenyan distance runners and their exceptional barefoot running technique. The unique split-toe (aka tabi toe) design and the flexible sole of the Air Rift helped the model gain a cult-like following among runners and casual wearers in overseas markets like Japan. Now, with a resurgence in popularity for sandals and tabis, it's a great time for Nike to bring back the Air Rift in its OG “Kenya” colorway.
Containing the iconic split-toe design, the silhouette’s open design helps with breathability, while a flexible outsole mimics the foot's natural motion. Across the upper sits the classic Kenya color scheme, with red and green accents on a black base, paying homage to the nation's flag. An adjustable Velcro strap across the midfoot ensures a secure and comfortable fit, while the Phylon midsole provides lightweight cushioning for all-day wear. Embroidered Nike branding marks the toe and heel with a Swoosh and “Nike” text, respectively. Rounding out the design is the black outsole.
The Nike Air Rift Kenya (W) will release this fall through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in women's sizing, the retail price is set at $105.
