Ja Morant may be in hot water as of late with a string of controversies following the young superstar including allegations of assaulting a teenage boy. However, the folks over in Beaverton, Oregon are standing by Morant during these times just ahead of the launch of his first signature silhouette the Nike Ja 1. So far, a slew of color schemes has been revealed for the Spring/Summer and Fall/Holiday season with the latter of the two seasons featuring an “EYBL” themed colorway.
Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League often gets co-branded performance basketball silhouettes, as seen with 2022’s Jordan Brand EYBL collection, which features colorful makeovers. For the Ja 1 “EYBL” PE we see a mismatched pair of kicks featuring yellow shades on the left pair and purple hues on the right, however, each pair gets accenting hits of the opposites color. The same construction as every other Ja 1 remains with mesh spotted along the midfoot and toebox while leather, TPU, and ripstop nylon are featured on various portions of the upper.
Tonal shades matching each respective sneaker land on the tongue and lace set while we see the tongue tag and heel come in an accenting hit of color with Ja’s “12” branding on the heel and Nike EYBL branding on the tag. For the Nike Swoosh, we see an array of colors in a tie-dye marbled-like design while the silhouette comes complete with a two-tone midsole paired with a multi-color rubber outsole.
The retail pair features a mainly melon tint upper and comes constructed like other Nike Ja 1 colorways, featuring mesh, leather, and TPU. Accenting shades of purple make their mark on the Swoosh and left sneaker tongue tag while the right tongue tag gets a blue finish. On the heel, the ripstop nylon portion comes mismatched between the two sneakers and contains EYBL's logo embroidered on the lateral side. Underfoot sits a black and blue midsole, the back half receiving yellow speckle paint, paired with a black outsole.
The Nike Ja 1 EYBL will release this fall through Nike and select NSW retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $120.
