Nike Basketball is banking big time on the future generation of athletes as the current roster is filled with aging veterans. Arguably the most exciting within the group is Ja Morant, the Grizzlies forward who has been posterizing big men in the paint, dishing out assists, and dropping an average of nearly 30 points per game. Not only is this thanks to his natural talents and hard work, but his signature silhouette the Nike Ja 1. Already showcased in its “Day 1” and “Phantom” colorway, Nike has given us updates on the other colorways we showcased earlier in 2022 as we have first looks at the Nike Ja 1 “Scratch.”
Just like Ja Morant's Grizzlies uniforms from their days in Vancouver, the low-top performance basketball model takes on shades of baby blue across its leather and mesh construction. Unique amongst the other Ja 1 colorways revealed so far is the inclusion of claw mark graphics (obviously referencing his team's name) that are slashed across the toe, back of the sole unit, and on the Swoosh branding details. Black laces contrast the brown leather found on the JA-branded tongue tag while the sockliner nearby comes in a bright red. Other details based on Ja himself include the heel’s “12” embroidery and the “TMT” acronym embedded into the iridescent heel counter. Rounding out the design is the two-tone white and black midsole paired with a black rubber outsole.
The Nike Ja 1 Scratch is set to release Spring 2023 through Nike and select NSW retailers online and in-store. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $110.
