As the first Gen Z player to secure a Nike signature shoe, Ja Morant's debut sneaker, the Nike Ja 1, had major success when it launched in early 2023. As we approach the end of 2024, Nike is gearing up to release the highly anticipated follow-up, the Nike Ja 2. After getting glimpses at the Stargazer colorway, the latest iteration to grab attention is the Halloween-inspired version of the Ja 2, set to drop just in time for spooky season.
The Nike Ja 2 Nightmare brings a haunting yet striking aesthetic to the court, departing from the green color palette on the Ja 1 Halloween rendition. Instead, this version features a bold red and black color scheme that sets it apart. The upper is constructed with red suede on the mudguard, giving the sneaker a premium look, while mesh on the toe and synthetic leather on the lateral midfoot add durability and texture. A standout feature is the claw mark graphic etched into the leather panel, complemented by golden Swoosh accents on both the lateral and medial sides. The medial side, however, switches things up with a mesh construction for added breathability.
Ja Morant's signature branding graces the tongue in a golden hue, matching the metallic silver grill lace dubrae that spells out Morant. The attention to detail continues on the heel, where black faux fur is adorned with zombie hand graphics, evoking a sense of eerie intrigue. An embroidered cat eye on the heel tab further amplifies the Halloween theme, adding a subtle but impactful touch. Underfoot, the Nike Ja 2 Nightmare doesn’t just look good—it performs. The black and red foam midsole has a forefoot Zoom Air unit, delivering responsive cushioning for quick cuts and explosive movements. The outsole, which also comes in black and red, features quotes from Morant himself, including the motivational phrase, For the underdogs who have the dawg in them, a nod to Ja's journey and mindset.
The Nike Ja 2 Nightmare will release on October 25, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s, GS, and PS sizing, the retail price is set at $130 for men, $105 for GS, and $90 for PS.
