Before Elena Delle Donne and Sabrina Ionescu launched their signature Nike sneakers, the last time Nike had a WNBA athlete with a signature model was in the mid-2000s with Diana Taurasi’s line. While we’d all love a retro of her sneakers, Nike gives the White Mamba her colorway of LeBron James’ Nike LeBron NXXT Gen Ampd themed after her Phoneix Mercury.
Black hues dominate most of the sneaker, featured on the nubuck overlays and portions of the mesh while accenting colors purple and orange evoke an image of the Mercury’s uniforms. An embroidered pattern alternating between orange and purple, interspersed throughout the black knit near the midfoot and heel, accents the orange and purple Swoosh and the mini white Swoosh. More purple pops along the metallic eyelets, LeBron’s signature atop the tongue, and a TPU Swoosh panel along the tongue overlay. Below, the sneaker is completed with a black Zoom Air-cushioned midsole paired with a black rubber outsole that derives its traction pattern from the streets of Akron, Ohio.
The Nike LeBron NXXT Gen AMPD Diana Taurasi will release on October 1, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $170.
