LeBron James signed a lifetime deal with Nike in 2015 for a reported $1 billion, marking the first time The Swoosh had inked a deal of that magnitude. LeBron is expected to keep receiving performance basketball sneakers, even as he nears the end of his NBA, but the duo has more than basketball in mind. Earlier this year, Nike officially unveiled a new training silhouette from King James, the LeBron TR1, with multiple colorways slated for its first run. This series includes the Purple Rain colorway, which has just appeared via official imagery.
An homage to the famed artist Prince and LeBron’s current team, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Purple Rain color of the LeBron TR1 sees tonal shades of purple from top to bottom. The upper uses an engineered mesh construction with a bootie-like construction for lockdown support and to allow athletes’ feet to swell during training. More reinforcement comes from the midsole warp that wraps around the upper for stability and comfort. This area also hosts a contrasting purple hue via the Swoosh logo, matching the color of the LeBron crown logo near the tongue. Underfoot, the sole unit removes the Strobel to get athletes closer to the foam cushioning for added comfort and an inverted waffle pattern for traction on the outsole.
The Nike LeBron TR1 Purple Rain will release on October 23, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
