Giannis Antetokounmpo, The Greek Freak, has played a massive role for both the Milwaukee Bucks and Nike since his debut in the NBA back in 2013, though it would take some time for Antetokounmpo to develop into the superstar he is today. Getting his first signature sneaker, the Zoom Freak 1, in 2019, the model has maintained its popularity amongst ball players, and as such, has continued to receive updates throughout its short-lived history. Even though Giannis had an upbringing in Greece, his Zoom Freak 4 has just appeared in a colorway that pays homage to the ancient Roman Colosseum.
Designed with performance basketball in mind, the sneaker comes with a combo of lightweight mesh on the upper and reinforcement through fused plastic and foam overlays throughout. Greyscale shades take over the majority of these materials with the toebox and collar portion coming in moon fossil, while the midfoot comes in a purplish-hue dubbed sweet beet. The latter of these two shades also takes over the bottom half of the tongue, while the top half and lace set come in grey. Branding details stay standard with the Nike Swoosh getting some added flair as it appears cracked, mimicking the deterioration of the world-famous Colosseum, while the Greek Freak’s logo and compass appear on the right and left shoe respectively. Darker earth tones appear on the heel and sockliner, though the medial side features a strong contrast thanks to the embroidered pink Swoosh. Underfoot, a white foam midsole with various homages to Antetokounmpo himself gets cushioned by a full-length Zoom Air unit. Rounding out the design is a grippy two-tone cream and white rubber outsole.
The Nike Zoom Freak 4 Colosseum is set to release on October 14th, 2022 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
