Nike Basketball is currently undergoing a transition period as it has begun to shift its focus away from legacy players like LeBron James and Kevin Durant. While these athletes still draw plenty of eyes and dollars to The Swoosh, their time on the court is approaching an end. On the roster, players like Ja Morant and Giannis Antetokounmpo will likely become the primary talent after the legends mentioned above gracefully exit their careers. While Ja’s future is somewhat in question before launching his first signature sneaker, Antetokounmpo is still going strong both on-and-off the NBA court. Now, we’ve got an official look at Giannis’ fifth signature sneaker - the Nike Zoom Freak 5.
Appearing in a Bucks themed colorway references throwback uniforms, the model forgoes the usual backward Swoosh detail and strays from the line’s typical design language. Simple construction for the low-top model features a large leather panel that wraps from the toebox back to the heel, while the midfoot portion takes on just a single mesh underlay. Respectively, these regions take on green and red shades while a large golden Swoosh partially sinks into the sole unit below. White laces provide pop while we see Giannis’ logo embroidered atop the green tongue. Underfoot, the sole unit also receives an update as it doesn’t offer a glimpse into the cushioning system. Instead, a creamy foam wraps around the sneaker while the multi-color rubber outsole below provides grippy traction for dominance on the court.
The Nike Zoom Freak 5 Keep It A Buck is set to release on July 21st, 2023, through Nike and select NSW retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $140.
