For pro basketball players, their signature sneaker lines with brands like Nike or adidas have continually increased in their retail prices as the years have gone on. Not only is this due to inflation, but because of the cost of new tech/R&D for each iteration. With this, you’ll often find takedown versions, essentially cheaper and less tech-heavy designs that will give consumers' wallets a break while still offering decent performance on the court. For decades we’ve seen Team Jordan colorways of LeBron Soldier releases, though it seems the next iteration of a takedown model from The Swoosh will give us an alternative to the $200 Nike LeBron 20 - the Nike Zoom LeBron NXXT Gen that is set to debut in an “I Promise” colorway.
Taking inspiration from the I Promise school LeBron opened in Akron, Ohio, the sneaker comes with a split-color design of blue and orange between the left and right sneakers respectively while appearing in a more mid-top form compared to the LeBron 20. An engineered mesh wraps all throughout the upper with hits of suede appear on the toe and heel, all of which come in the primary shade for each shoe, while accenting details remain the same across the board. For laces, each pair will come in the opposite color while the tongue come in a multi-color makeup sans the black and pink suede up top. Branding looks similar to the LeBron 20 with the Nike Swoosh along the profile of the sneaker getting an iridescent finish and featuring extra stitching details along the edges. Further hits of pink shades come via the mini Swoosh located on the rear of the main logo while the insole features “NXXT” text with LeBron’s crown logo in the center. Underfoot, a full-length Air Zoom unit comes in black with yellow and pink accents appearing on the heel while the entire design is rounded out by a grippy rubber outsole in the same shade as the primary color of the upper.
The Nike Zoom LeBron NXXT Gen I Promise is set to release on February 10th, 2023 through Nike and select Nike Basketball retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $160.
