In the footwear industry, musical artists are just as important as athletes when it comes to endorsement deals. While he dominated the 2010s and is poised for another successful run in the 2020s, Drake had an odd path to eventually landing his own sublabel (Nocta) with Nike as he previously received various OVO x Air Jordan samples, his own production of the Undefeated x Air Jordan 4, and possibly was set to join The Three Stripes before Pusha-T engaged in 2018s most memorable rap beef. Now in 2022, we’re getting our first looks at the gilded OVO x Air Jordan 8 that dates back to 2017.
While keeping its standard construction in terms of construction and material placement, the iconic AJ 8 model gets completely wrapped in metallic gold from heel to toe (sans the sockliner and sole unit). Tonal gold laces match the slightly different shaded mesh tongue and lead up to a white Jumpman logo embedded within a circular patch. Other Jordan branding details remain true to the OG as “Air Jordan” text comes debossed along the lockdown strap and “23” is featured at the intersection of the aforementioned straps. Underfoot, a white AJ 8 midsole comes paired with a clear semi-translucent speckled rubber outsole that features golden hits in the center and a red Jumpman near the toe.
The OVO x Air Jordan 8 Sample is, unfortunately, set to remain a sample and will not be released to the public.
