NMD’s and Ultraboost’s ran the sneaker world at one point, though like every other fad in existence, their popularity soon fell to the wayside once the Jordan Retro craze began once more. To help revive the line, adidas introduced the world to the NMD_S1, an updated, futuristic take on the lifestyle sneaker that has proven to garner similar demand to what the original NMD once had. Though the sneaker has not had any direct collaborations so far (sans Pharrell William’s boot-like version), sneaker customizer Phillip “Philllllthy” Leyesa is bringing his vintage and DIY look to the adidas NMD_S1.
Taking inspiration from his design language, Philllllthy adds a two-tone black and tan knit pattern across the upper, appearing like a handsewn garment that is accented by hits of grey and indigo throughout. Along the midfoot, the semi-translucent TPU cage is covered in a fused plastic Three Stripes logo taking on the indigo shade. Around the tongue, the tag comes in a khaki shade that accents the grey collar nearby. The aggressively chunky midsole is recreated in Philllllthy’s eyes as the iconic NMD plugs get covered in a light blue shade and his own P logo is stamped on the lateral side next to the usual NMD_S1 branding. Rounding everything out is the gum rubber outsole that features a trail-ready traction pattern made up of various Trefoil logos.
The Philllllthy x adidas NMD_S1 is slated to release on November 15th, 2022 through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is rumored to be $220.
