When Los Angeles streetwear titan Pleasures collaborates, the sneaker world stops and takes notice. The brand's earlier ventures with Puma, especially the purple take on the Puma Velophasis, were an impeccable testament to their creative prowess. Drawing from the depths of Y2K aesthetics and vintage appeal, Pleasures is again ready to merge its distinctive design language with Puma's cutting-edge craftsmanship.
The Pleasures x Puma Velophasis Pack introduces us to two sensational renditions: Cayenne Pepper and Overdyed Birch Tree. Delving into the Overdyed Birch Tree rendition, the multi-layered Y2K-inspired chunky design stands out prominently. The sneaker exhibits an overdyed treatment to the foundational ripstop, while the rear flourishes in tannish-grey shades. On the branding front, Pleasures’ mark sits gracefully on the tongue and TPU overlay, while Puma's iconic Formstrip dominates with an oversized black-and-white composition. Underpinning this design is an aged foam midsole with a matching rubber outsole.
Shifting focus to the Cayenne Pepper version, it captures the traditional Puma Velophasis essence. The mesh base, paired with TPU and leather overlays, forms a visual symphony. A fusion of red and orange shades is interrupted by stark black touches. However, the branding remains consistent with the Overdyed Birch Tree iteration. The Puma logo on the medial side is a standout feature, showcased in gleaming black patent leather encapsulated by a red trim. Beneath, the sneaker is grounded by an orange and red foam midsole, with an accompanying orange rubber outsole.
The Pleasures x Puma Velophasis Pack will release October 21, 2023, through Puma and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the Overdyed pair is priced at $150 and the Cayenne Pepper colorway will retail for $140.
