Converse has long celebrated the Weapon silhouette, a basketball shoe that encapsulates the essence of the 1980s hardwood spirit. However, the brand's partnership with avant-garde designer Rick Owens has taken this icon to the next level. Under Owens' DRKSHDW label, the silhouette has been reimagined into the TURBOWPN, morphing the classic silhouette into something transcending time and space. Following up on the Cream Black colorway from last October, Owens has created a tan rendition dubbed Cave.
The Cave iteration of the TURBOWPN Mid engulfs the sneaker in a prehistoric aura, with its tan tumbled leather upper reminiscent of the earthy tones found within untouched caverns. The collaboration is distinctly marked by replacing Converse's traditional chevron star with Rick Owens' unmissable branding on the lateral side. This bold move signifies the merging of two diverse worlds. The sneaker retains classic Weapon features like the Y strap while introducing a heightened tongue that bears the marks of both Owens and Converse, symbolizing their united vision. Below sits a cream-colored chunky midsole and a serrated tonal rubber outsole.
The Rick Owens x Converse DRKSHDW TURBOWPN Mid Cave will release in 2024 through Rick Owens, Converse, Nike SNKRS, and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the sneaker is priced at $200.
