Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Debuts the Converse Shai 001 Ares Grey
Published
The Oklahoma City Thunder are bursting into the playoffs with the best record in the NBA and the frontrunner for this year's NBA MVP award in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Ahead of the Thunder’s eventual 51-point win over the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 1 of the playoffs, SGA took to social media to debut the second colorway of his upcoming signature sneaker with Converse, the Converse Shai 001.
The greyscale video posted shows the Ares Grey colorway of the Shai 001, which derives from Shai’s son’s name. Construction for the model remains identical to the Butter colorway that debuted in February, featuring a no-sew upper reinforced with TPU and puffy neoprene. A monochromatic finish covers every upper portion, including the zipper shroud that hides the lace set below.

SGA’s logo, which he designed himself, is found on the tongue, while the heel contains Converse’s chevron logo. Internally, the sneaker features a forefoot Zoom Air unit alongside a full-length foam cushioning setup. The grippy rubber outsole finishes the sneaker with another hit of Shai and Converse branding.
The Converse Shai 001 Ares Grey has no confirmed release date, but if released, expect a drop in Fall 2025 through Converse and select retailers online and in-store. In men’s sizing, the retail price is $130. Download the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the latest releases, raffles, news, and more in the sneaker and streetwear world.
