We've all seen the meme. In season 5, episode 16 of The Simpsons, titled "Homer Loves Flanders," the animated sitcom's main protagonist is seen slowly but surely backing into a bush, away from view. Since then, the scene has become one of the most legendary memes in internet history, flawlessly showcasing how everyone feels when they're placed in a situation that they don't want to be in, or to convey embarrassment. Bringing this moment to life via footwear, adidas recreates the meme on the adidas Stan Smith.
Taking on the classic tennis sneaker that's almost 60 years old, this Stan Smith boasts a smooth leather construction that's painted in a crisp "White" hue. Three Stripe perforations feature along the lateral and medial side panels, where you'll also find Homer's name debossed in gold foil. The Pieman's portrait features on the tongue, and the heel is done up in a forest green fleece material that resembles a bush, complete with Homie's blank facial expression right in the middle of it, disappearing into his surroundings. The Stan Smith is then finished off with a creamy midsole underfoot, nodding to the model's heritage design.
Nearly a year since it was first spotted, The Simpsons x adidas Stan Smith Homer Simpson will release August 18, 2023 through adidas and select retailers online and in-store.
